Action: End Unfair Evictions!
October 8 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
On Tuesday 8th October at 12:30 A giant removal van will be parked outside of the Ministry of Housing ( 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF) surrounded by renters who’ve been evicted under section 21 of the 1988 Housing Act. We will be joined by campaigners from Generation Rent and ACORN.
For those who don’t know, Section 21 evictions allow landlords to kick out tenants for no reason with only 2 months notice and is one of the leading causes of homelessness.
In April earlier this year, we helped force the government to announce they would outlaw Section 21 notices. A consultation was then launched and closes on the 12th October. (Sign up to our demands open letter here https://bit.ly/2nUzPAs and respond to the consultation here: https://bit.ly/2mgiNfE)
Unfortunately, the government appears to be making it easier for landlords to evict tenants in other ways.
Many of us are turning up next Tuesday and demanding that alongside scrapping Section 21, the government bring in indefinite tenancies and control rents so landlords can’t just hike the rent to kick out renters.
So come along with your placards, friends and moving boxes – and your experiences of being evicted if you feel comfortable. RSVP on the event page if you are coming.
