Resisting Borders in Housing – 11am-12:30pm Sunday 6th June

May 18, 2021 | events

Over the past year we’ve seen black and brown communities, including many migrants, suffer at the sharpest end of the crisis – not just from COVID itself, but from eviction, poor housing and homelessness. From Grenfell to the pandemic we have seen how borders and racism in housing kill.

We want to fight border practices in housing through our union and centre this fight within the housing movement so we recently formed the New Borders in Housing working group to do just that. We are holding an introductory event for LRU members and migrant renters outside the union on how they can get involved with fights for housing justice and the specificity of the migrant renters experience, exploring the arbitrary barriers to housing that many face.

Speakers include:

  • Jessica Perera, Associate Researcher at Institute of Race Relations
  • Alexandra Muñoz, Member of LRU Spanish Speakers Group
  • Mary Atkinson, Campaigns Officer at JCWI

Format: 4 speakers will sit on a panel, followed by a short Q+A session, attendee’s will then be split into breakout rooms for smaller facilitated discussions.
