2 May 11am-1:30pm – Renters Reform Bill: what is it and what should we be fighting for?
As we’ve seen during the pandemic, our housing system is rigged in the interests of landlords and investors. Our campaigning has won significant protections for renters such as eviction bans, but ultimately the government has chosen to prioritise the profits of landlords over our right to housing.
Back in 2019, the government promised an end to Section 21 – the piece of law that makes it so easy to evict us. This was a big win for the renters movement and something we fought hard to achieve. The government is now expected to bring in a new Renters Reform Bill this year.
This is our chance to put rent controls on the table, to demand that landlords face consequences for their actions, and to confront the rigged housing system housing system that guarantees landlords income but fails to provide us with the decent homes we need.
On May 2, join us to:
- Learn more about the housing system
- Hear from Living Rent, a Scottish tenants union, about their successful campaigning
- Find out more about the Renters Reform Bill
- Shape the LRU’s campaigning on this important new law
This event will be captioned. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make it easier for you to attend.
