Over the last 6 years London Renters Union members have taken action in solidarity with one another and won so much! Member Solidarity has forced hundreds of landlords to do repairs, stopped dozens of evictions, won hundreds of thousands of pounds of compensation and got landlords to return stolen deposits.
As the housing crisis gets even tougher we want to win even more for each other and so we’re launching a new training programme to give more members the skills, confidence and community support to do Member Solidarity.
The offer: The Renter Power Training Programme will kick off with a weekend training on Saturday May 17th – Sunday 18th May, teaching members key skills like how to facilitate peer support groups, how to spot and organise a public dispute as well as covering our renters rights in law, and the history of the struggle for housing justice.
Between May and November 2025, members on the training programme can go to optional “top-up” sessions on topics like understanding homelessness law and the upcoming Renters Reform Act. Members on the training programme will get support from a Member Solidarity staff member, and will be put into a support circle of other members also on the training, to give ongoing support to members doing Member Solidarity organising in their local branch.
The ask: You need to be available to attend an in-person weekend training on 17th – 18th May in East London. We will provide food and can pay travel expenses within London.
You need to be able to commit to doing at least 6 hours a month of Member Solidarity organising – for example attending your local branch meeting peer support space, making calls to members, helping to organise a public dispute – for 6 months.
The next step: Please complete this registration form and let us know why you want to join this training programme.
Access: If you have access requirements, for example you need support with childcare, or travel or have interpretation needs, please let us know and we will do our best to facilitate these needs.
