Do you want to get more involved in supporting members with housing issues? Do you have a spare hour or more per week most weeks?

The new member support online response team is working to call people with housing issues who’ve got in touch online. Some of our biggest wins have started off like this. This is a great way to get involved and learn more about how we support each other.

As the union is about building collective power, rather than being a charity-type service, we’re trying to avoid providing any support by phone or online. So the purpose of these phone calls is to explain a bit about our process, express some solidarity and sympathy, and encourage people to come to a branch meeting where we’ll be able to discuss options for collective support.

If the issue is very urgent, such as an imminent eviction, we might try to start organising with the person before the next branch meeting.

We’re ideally looking for people to join the team who have maybe an hour or two to spare most weeks in a month. Lots of support will be provided along the way and you won’t ever have to stay involved beyond the first phone call, unless you want to.

This is a great way to get more involved in the London Renters Union by contributing a small amount of time.
