We’ve been campaigning for an end to “no-fault” evictions for five years because we know it’s not right that landlords have the power to throw us out of our homes for no reason.
After years of broken promises, the strength of our movement has forced the government to deliver change. On Wednesday, the government published a new bill that will end section 21 for good when it becomes law.
This is a massive win for the London Renters Union and the wider housing movement.
But the government is still siding with landlords. Landlords will keep the power to force renters out with massive rent hikes. The new law will also make it easier for landlords to evict us for rent arrears or for “anti-social behaviour”.
Landlords want to keep the power they have over our lives and are lobbying the government to gain even more ways to kick us out of our homes.
We know we can’t rely on people in power to give us what we deserve.
That’s why on July 4, renters will take to the streets to demand protection from rent rises and that the Renters Reform Bill is as strong as possible. Save the date!
Join us on May 31st for a workshop where members will come together to:
- Learn about the Renters Reform Bill and discuss what it means for renters
- Find out about the action we’re taking on July 4
- Shape how the LRU is continuing to fight for our right to a safe, secure affordable home.
